  • Teaching Children to Shoot at a Young Age
Learn About Guns on August 15th, 2008
I’ve seen that some people, most of whom have never fired a gun, are opposed to parents teaching their children to fire guns.  I disagree, and feel that children who are interested in firearms should be taught to shoot under responsible adult supervision, once they are mature enough to do so safely. Children who are taught [...]...

  • Making it easy for Felons to vote
John Lott on August 15th, 2008
The Obama campaign is really rounding up all possible voters:A young man approached the table and was pleasantly surprised to learn that felons in Georgia who've completed probation can vote. "If I'd a-known it was this easy," he said in disbelief, "I would have been done!" After completing the form, Bishop folded it and deposited it in an ersatz b...

  • Against Gun Ownership Indeed
Snowflakes in Hell on August 15th, 2008
If the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership isn’t against people owning guns, why are they gloating over the fact that one of McCain’s advisors got prosecuted for having an unloaded shotgun in his car in DC?  I would think in a world where people hunt, and shoot clays, a common pastime in DC politics, that it should be common and ac...
  • Chicago’s Cool Summer
John Lott on August 15th, 2008
The Chicago Tribune has this story:summer heat continues in short supply, continuing a trend that has dominated much of the 21st Century's opening decade. There have been only 162 days 90 degrees or warmer at Midway Airport over the period from 2000 to 2008. That's by far the fewest 90-degree temperatures in the opening nine years of any decade on ...
  • Goin’ north
Outback Notes on August 15th, 2008
Took some garden fare up to neighbors who don't have a garden this year. Their ranch is north of me about 20 miles. I like to go up north but don't get up there too often because when I go out for supplies and such I usually head south. The road north is a nice one-laner. While I was out I went the extra 18 miles to "their" town and got myself a bu...

  • Second Amendment As Applied to Aliens?
Snowflakes in Hell on August 15th, 2008
Eugene Volokh discusses the topic.  I would imagine that, if the second amendment is to be a fundamental right, that all people lawfully in the United States would have a right to keep and bear arms.  But could Congress regulate foreign nationals coming to the United States, purchasing firearms, and taking them back home? ...
