Another UK Gun Control Failure – James Oyebola Murdered Despite the Gun Ban

by LearnAboutGuns.com October 9, 2008 Learn About Guns

I’ve previously discussed the abject failure that is British gun control, and how some of that county’s law abiding citizens are trying to regain their gun rights. A recent conviction in a murder that was committed by a gun-ban-ignoring criminal further highlights the pointlessness of such anti gun rights laws:
Kanyanta Mulenga, 23, from Putney, UK [...]

Phone banking

by Peter October 9, 2008 Firearms and Freedom

I didn’t blog about the last time I went out to work the phone bank, partly because it would be repetitive, and partly to not brag. But I am bringing it up again. Because EVERYONE needs to get out and put some time in, and maybe I can guilt trip someone into volunteering.
I know a lot [...]

As you may have read, the Blogrolling site was attacked by hackers, destroying many lists of links used by blogs.  Among those destroyed was the Manufacturer Links list on Traction Control’s Commercial Site.

Texas Senatorial Candidate Debate

by jr October 9, 2008 A Keyboard and a .45

Senator John Cornyn will Debate Democrat contender Rick Noriega and Libertarian Yvonne Schick in Houston this evening. The Debate will be carried throughout Texas on PBS at 8:00PM (except in Amarillo where it will air at 9:00).

I am very disappointed with our Jr. Senator’s vote on the “Bailout Bill”. I honestly expected better from him and hope he can get it in gear and work hard to redeem himself with those of us who have supported him. I have expressed my disappointment to the campaign and to the Senator, as have many other Texans. I get the feeling that he knows he stepped in it this time, time will tell if he has learned his lesson.

I will continue to support John Cornyn in this election. He has stood against John McCain in the past when McCain was wrong, and I expect him do do so in the future. If Obama happens to win this presidential election, we will need a Senator with some experience and bearing in the Senate to help hold back the tide of socialistic legislation that will be introduced on Capitol Hill. That Senator, I still believe, is John Cornyn.

Like BigJolly says over at Lone Star Times:

For all of the grief that Sen. Cornyn has caused me with his vote to socialize the country by voting for the wasteful, irresponsible $700 billion gift to Wall Street, he has been reliably conservative most of the time. And yes, I still want to scream at him and kick him off his big bad John horse because of that socialist give-away.

But what is done is done and there is no going back. At least he was man enough to address Lone Star Times readers directly with the reasoning behind the vote. Perhaps he will be true to his word and make certain that at least some of the money isn’t wasted on spa parties for bankers and their staffs.

Watch the debate – I’m certain that you too will see that re-electing John Cornyn is the best choice for Texas…

It should be a good debate and Senator Cornyn should be able to win it hands down.

Music of Dreams and Silent Halls

by Brigid October 9, 2008 Home on the Range

Why should you dance for an audience indifferent?
Where is the music if only sung in dreams and silent halls?
Should you not find song in bright sunlit woods,
in rich round fruit
that tastes not of limitations
but of the beauty of the earth,
savored like the thought of heaven.
The cosmic dance is within yourself.
Torrents of rain, moods somber in snow,
grievings alone,
unsubdued ecstasies when

This is some funny shit right there!

by Nicki October 9, 2008 The Liberty Zone

I just got back from the doctor.  Seems I somehow managed to fracture my right foot.  Don’t ask.  I don’t know.  I’d been walking around on it for two weeks – one week with crutches – one week just gritting teeth through the pain.  Today, I saw a specialist, and guess what!  I’m now the proud owner of the most hideous walking cast humanity has ever seen!  EVER!

So much for bringing a pair of stilettos and a sexy outfit when I fly to Nashville tomorrow!  I’m allowed to take it off while I’m driving, sleeping and showering.  I also secured permission to take it off while Oleg and I play with our cameras.  But that’s it.  The rest of the time, I have to wear it.  Lemme tell you people – it’s NOT sexy.  AT ALL.  It’s horrid, clunky, and black (or African American, just in case someone gets insulted at my use of the color… which makes me wonder if they changed the color name on the crayon yet…)

Um, anyway…

So I’m pissed off.  Frank thinks this is ridiculously funny and just told me that he actually may find the walking cast to be a turn-on.  He’s twisted.  My kind of guy!  I went to my favorite store – New York & Company – to console myself by purchasing a lot of great clothes.  It helped… somewhat.  No amount of great clothes will make this horrid walking cast look even remotely attractive, so I’m still grumpy.

I get home, I go to Misha‘s site, and I see this:

I laugh hysterically.  All of a sudden the walking cast is not so horrid.  But the video… yeah.  It’s horrifying and accurate all at the same time. It scares me, but at the same time, I have to wonder if those who plan to cast a vote in his direction remember that we actually DEFEATED communism!  Yeah!  We kicked their asses… and now, we’re becoming them.  I’m sure Putin is laughing his little KGB ass off!

And for those of you who are wondering what the hell this music is… it’s the old USSR national anthem.

Georgia citizen detained for open carry

by Of Arms and the Law October 9, 2008 Arms & The Law

Another one. GeorgiaCarry.org filed suit and reports on the case. (A bit of background: the plaintiff is enlisted military, and was openly carrying in a store. He was stopped and the firearm confiscated. When he asked for its return, he was told it couldn’t be returned, because they had forwarded it to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Within hours of word that he had retained counsel, they were asking him to come down so they could return it to him. Investigation showed it had never been forwarded to GBI.)

Not again, again

by Of Arms and the Law October 9, 2008 Arms & The Law

I’ve previously posted about a Norfolk VA fellow who open carries, entirely lawful in VA, was arrested, sued and settled for $10,000….

And a few days later, doing the same on a bus, was detained by Norfolk police.

Well, Virginia Civil Defense League held a dinner rally in his support. And as he was leaving, Norfolk PD arrested him.

I don’t lightly play the race card … but it’s hard to escape the suspicion that the fact that he’s African-American might be playing a role here.

NRA Endorses McCain/Palin

This is good. With gunbanobama.com, and their other efforts to defeat Obama, there was already a sort of de facto McCain endorsement, because let’s face it, you aren’t going to defeat Obama voting for anyone else.
