Eric Holder and the Assault Weapons Ban

by jr February 27, 2009 A Keyboard and a .45

On Monday, February 2nd, Eric Holder was confirmed by the Senate as Attorney General of these United States. Eric Holder was confirmed with a vote of 75 – 21. As CBS News put it:

He had strong bipartisan support in Monday’s vote.

17 Senate Republicans supported Eric Holder’s confirmation. If any of those folks represent you, be sure to let them know that you remember their vote when our AG does something that you really disapprove of. Maybe something like proposing a new Assault Weapons Ban.

Here it is less than a month into Holder’s tenure as AG and he has publicly voiced the Administration’s goal to implement a new Assault Weapons Ban. This should be no surprise to anyone who took a moment or two to look up Eric Holder’s and President Obama’s history on gun control issues. They are both rabidly against an individuals right to keep and bear arms.

Just in case you missed it, from ABC News:

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.

Wednesday Attorney General Eric Holder said that the Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban which expired in 2004 during the Bush administration.

“As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstate the ban on the sale of assault weapons,” Holder told reporters.

Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

Time and time again we have seen that Obama supports a ban on what he considers assault weapons, and now his AG is making it official.

President Obama wants an AWB. Quite a few congress critters also want an AWB as evidenced by the fact that 67 of them cosponsored HR 1022. A small group of Republicans also authored an AWB last year. What does the Vice President think of an AWB? Joe Biden sponsored an assault weapons ban as recently as 2007 and has bragged that he wrote the original Assault Weapons Ban. Even one of my Senators from Texas has recently expressed support for an AWB:

I support the Assault Weapons Ban and I think that has been clarified just as shouting fire in a crowded theatre clarifies the right of free speech…

Senator Hutchison’s comments concerning an AWB start at time 34:52 in this video.

The major news outlets throughout the country have been feeding the populace images of drug cartels in Mexico and blaming the violence on firearms from American gun shows and shops. Most of these articles have mentioned calls for reinstatement of an AWB.

I think that Eric Holder’s statements the other day may have been a miscalculation by the Administration. After the success of the “stimulus” package, Obama may be feeling pretty invincible. He just forgot that he is not the only power hungry elitist on the hill.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tossed cold water on the prospect of reinstating the assault weapons ban, highlighting Democrats’ reluctance to take on gun issues.

Attorney General Eric Holder raised the prospect Wednesday that the administration would push to bring back the ban. But Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated on Thursday that he never talked to her. The Speaker gave a flat “no” when asked if she had talked to administration officials about the ban.

“On that score, I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now,” Pelosi said at her weekly news conference. “I think it’s clear the Bush administration didn’t do that.”

That was Nancy’s way of letting the Administration know that they need not be getting all uppity and chit, that she holds the real power and they best be talking with her before going public with big plans like a new AWB. As David points out, anyone who thinks that Pelosi would not support an AWB is deluding themselves.

The people in power right now would love nothing more than to disarm the free citizens of the United States. It is our efforts; our phone calls, letters and emails that let them know we will not accept more gun control legislation. It is our support of groups like the NRA, GOA and local gun rights organizations that make our voices heard on the hill and in our state legislatures. And yes, it is also the fear that a gun grab may not go as well as planned that gives them pause as they contemplate a strategy for disarming the American People.

So please do contact your congress critters and let them know that a ban on Assault Weapons is ineffective and unacceptable, that you are disappointed in the AG’s statements, and that the best thing that we can do to help Mexico with their gang problems is to build the fence that we demanded years ago.

Oh, Mr. Holder! Go to hell!

by Nicki February 27, 2009 The Liberty Zone

OK, Dave done pissed me off.  (I hope that sounded sufficiently Tennesseean, because that’s where Dave is from).  I have to weigh in on AG Holder’s “We must ban assault weapons, because Mexico is a festering shithole awash with drugs and crime” bullshit.

Howard has details.

Holder was responding to complaints from Mexican officials:
Mexican government officials have complained that the availability of sophisticated guns from the United States have emboldened drug traffickers to fight over access routes into the U.S. [Emphasis added]
What are these “sophisticated guns” allegedly “from the United States” that would allegedly be banned?
“Some recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades,”
… “Large firefights have taken place in many towns and cities across
Mexico, but most recently in northern Mexico, including Tijuana,
Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez.” [Emphasis added]
The National Firearms Act of 1934
already banned these weapons from civilian purchase. As true military
firearms, “automatic weapons” are called “machineguns” in U.S. code,
and grenades are listed as “destructive devices.” While it is possible
to buy one of these prohibited firearms (but not grenades), it is a
time-consuming process that criminals cannot handle. The buyer must
fill out an application
with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Approval of the sale can happen only after certification by the “chief
law enforcement officer of the organization…having jurisdiction in the
area of residence” of the buyer. Once the buyer pays the $200 transfer tax and takes ownership, the firearm is registered,
making it easy to trace back to the buyer. Should a criminal send a
surrogate, or “straw purchaser,” to buy any firearm for him, this is
also a federal crime.
To claim that these weapons can be purchased from U.S. gun stores or
gun shows in sufficient quantities to arm small combat units strains
credibility.

Let me add a little something of my own here, because Howard uses logic and rational debate, while I just get pissed off and rant.  I suspect Howard is probably embarrassed to know me sometimes! But sometimes it just needs to be said.

First let me say this – I’m completely unsurprised by the renewed call to ban scary black guns that make Carolyn McCarthy shit her granny panties.  I saw her on the news this morning, screeching about the bad, scary, black guns that need to be banned, and I really had this urge to force feed her garden mulch…  This was always part of Teh Anointed One’s(tm) agenda. Hell, it’s blatantly present as a stated mission goal in his brand spankin’ new bureaucracy (hell, no he doesn’t want bigger government!).

It’s also unsurprising that in light of the complete failure that was the first “assault” weapons ban, the Marxist cocksacks would try and justify another ban via some other means,  What absolutely pisses me off beyond anything else is their insistence on using Mexico’s issues to justify infringing on Americans’ rights.

Let’s get something straight:

Mexico is a borderline third-world shithole, and its crimials, drugs and gangs are not our business.  UNLESS…

They enter the country illegally through our porous southern border and wreak havoc.

So what’s one to do?  Well… we could… I don’t know CLOSE THE FUCKING BORDERS, MAYBE?  Don’t let these assholes through!  Station National Guard and active duty Soldiers on the borders, since it’s their job to protect the country in the first place!  Make them stand post and shoot any shitbag who tries to cross illegally with a nonlethal dart that will render them paralyzed, and then toss them back over the border with a trebuchet!  I’m all about the trebuchet, people!

But see… the Mexican government doesn’t want our borders closed to its backwash. They want unfettered access, so they can rid their country of the flotsam and jetsam!  And when we suggest that border security is the answer, the Mexicans squeal like Ned Beatty being sodomized by a rabid band of hillbillies!

Well, guess what, assholes!  You can’t have your cake and eat it too.  You can’t expect us to open our borders to your scum and then alter our laws and destroy our freedoms to control the crime said scum might commit.  We are not responsible for your scum.  Our freedoms are not yours to fuck with.  Our laws are our laws.  If you don’t want the scum to take advantage of our laws, then keep them on your side of the border, and don’t bitch when we step up law enforcement.

And if you feel yourself entitled to dictate what laws we should impose on our people, don’t be surprised if we feel entitled to go into your little shithole and clean up for you. I guarantee you won’t like the job we did.  You don’t respect our sovereignty, so why the hell should we respect yours?

Oh, and by the way, if the cartels are employing “automatic” weapons, like you claim, they’re not getting them here legally, assholes!

Have a nice day!

He’s not for big government

by Nicki February 27, 2009 The Liberty Zone

And wild, rabid monkeys might fly out of my ass on national television. While I’m sure all of you would like to see that visually appealing image on NBC, because it would likely be more attractive and fascinating than Olbermann’s simian face, filled with righteous indignation, spewing whatever socialist rhetoric is of the day, I hate to disappoint you, but it won’t happen.

Because Barack Obama is most definitely NOT against big government. He loves it.  He relishes it. He bathes in it like a 300 lb. hooker in a vat of Astroglide. (I know you love the visuals.  I have a ton of them!)

President Barack Obama
laid out his first budget plan yesterday, predicting a stunning federal
deficit of $1.75 trillion this year – nearly four times last year’s
record – and asking Congress to raise taxes on the wealthy to stem the
flood of red ink while moving the country toward guaranteed health care
for all.

Denouncing what he called the “dishonest accounting” of recent federal
budgets, Obama unveiled his own $3.6 trillion blueprint for next year,
a bold proposal that would transfer wealth from rich taxpayers to the
middle class and the poor.

Steal from the rich and give to the poor, eh?  What a Robin Hood!  Too bad, he’s really stealing from the productive and giving to the indolent and undeserving… Talk about your “dishonest accounting!” He’s not creating wealth.  He’s stealing it. He’s not creating jobs.  He’s transferring them to government control at the expense of companies that actually create real jobs and create real wealth.  I guarantee you, however, that honesty is not part of this particular so-called budget.

I say “so-called” because budgeting implies that you actually set some kind of limits on your spending to stay within a certain range. I’m not seeing anything of the sort here.

Wanna see where the pork is?  Here you go.  Enjoy.  You elected this.  Hope you like it hard, fast and unlubed.
