Another administrative note

Well, the spammer from hell is back.  With a vengeance.

According to my friend Deej, who has taken precious time and effort to figure all this out for me (and deserves much food and alcohol courtesy of me in return), this motherfucker really took a lot of effort to bombard my site, and if I ever find him (chances are I won’t, but I can dream), I will make his short life extremely painful.

Just to give you an idea of what was going on last night…


So far we’ve scrubbed 127441 LINES of spam out of the raw data file.  I attached just the spam I found in ONE post.

You can tell that this stuff was sent by a spambot because of the pattern in the name they used for the “author”.  The example I attached was from a post you made in April.  You’ve got this stuff going all the way back to posts dated in August of 2008.

Literally, over three quarters of the raw data file I downloaded is pure spam.

It seems as though there is something embedded that acts as a signal to whoever is spamming you.  You are only getting hit on threads with existing comments.

They bypass your comment page altogether and attack the platform code itself.  It is possible that they are exploiting the email blogging or remote blogging features you have on your blog.

A lot of the spam is located in older posts where you wouldn’t ordinarily look for it.  Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any way to automatically close comments on posts older than say five or six days.

What is the reason for hitting your site with spam like this?  They don’t care that nobody sees it, It is for the search engines to pick up and boost their page ranking.  That is what they are after.  Unfortunately, it clutters up YOUR site and takes advantage of YOUR content.


Thanks to said spammer, I will be moving this entire blog over to a WordPress platform, which apparently zaps these festering fuckbats with ease.

There will be some confusion and weirdness while the move takes place, so don’t be surprised, and be patient. I’ll get this squared away as quickly as humanly possible, now that the inimitable Deej has done the majority of the work I couldn’t even begin to understand!

To Those of You Who Booed the Gay Soldier at the Debates Last Night…

You really are embarrassing bigots, who have no concept of courage, no idea what it’s like to love and serve your nation and no respect for the very guy who puts his life in danger every day to protect your right to be assholes.

Yeah, I’m talking to you, ignorant fuckbats, who had the unmitigated gall to show disrespect to a deployed troop who is out in the sandbox risking his life every day, while the very people whose rights he defends on a regular basis castigate, persecute and condemn him, while licking the puckered asshole of Rick Santorum, who would relegate their very existence to a closet via government force, while singing praises to some twisted deity and yammering on about independence and liberty.

These people are heroes.  They volunteered to serve this nation – to protect every American’s rights and freedoms – and because of who they are, they should not only be forced to remain alone for the duration of their service, but are vilified and condemned by pathetic ignorami who aren’t even good enough to lick his boots?

You should be thanking Stephen Hill for his service, not cheering the fact that until Tuesday, he had to have his face obscured while recording this question for fear of losing the job he loves.

And to all of you candidates, who didn’t even express a shred of disgust at the ignorant reaction of the audience – SHAME ON YOU!!  And shame on you, Santorum for not even having the decency to thank him for his service to the country YOU want to lead, you pig. 

Oh, and by the way, Santorum’s “Any type of sexual activity has no place in the military” comment qualifies as possibly the dumbest reply of the night.  No, sex has no place on deployment or in a warzone – heterosexual or otherwise, and there are orders that prohibit that (rather ineffectually, judging from the number of hookups I saw on my last deployment).  But that is not and never has been the point, and I suspect Santorum knows it.

But I digress…

The disrespect shown last night to this courageous man made me embarrassed to be a citizen of the same nation as these people!

He deserves respect, because he is doing a job very few have the courage and commitment to do.

He deserves respect, because he and his fellow Soldiers are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the nation they love.

He deserves respect, because despite the jeers and the persecution that was directed at him by a few sniveling shitbags, he had the courage to show his face and admit who he is.

He deserves respect, because he’s wearing the uniform of a United States Soldier.

He deserves respect, because he served in silence, denying who he is, because his beloved military forbid his open existence.

He deserves respect, because it shouldn’t matter whom he loves and with whom he chooses to spend his life, but it did, and until a few days ago, he sacrificed who he was to the needs of his nation. 

THAT is a sacrifice, and most of you wouldn’t know it if it jumped up and bit you on the left ass cheek. 

Show some damn respect, assholes!

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has accused a UK publisher of a breach of contract for releasing drafts of his autobiography without his approval.

Hmmmm.  Pot, meet kettle. You both have something in common.

I will give this guy credit for having brass balls the size of Guatemala. I’m sure the families of the sources he compromised who are likely being hunted by insurgent Taliban scum are laughing in their caves at the whining, pasty, opportunistic swine petulantly claiming the release of information about him was “unauthorized.”

Whut iz our kidz larnin?

My friend, the inimitable Amy Ridenour, shared this on her Facebook page tonight. Apparently, Fairfax, VA publik skoolz are teaching 2nd graders that government GIVES them rights.

Let’s get something straight.  The Bill of Rights PROTECTS existing rights from government infringement.  It grants nothing. And the government certainly does not “give” citizens said freedoms.  These rights exist. Every human being possesses them.  The difference between our nation and many others is that the law of our land explicitly prohibits the government from violating said rights. Many other nations do not have those protections.

While I’m not surprised at this sorry state of public education, I’m angry that taxpayer dollars are paying for this misinformation. 

I also wouldn’t be surprised if the appalling distortions were intentionally taught to the children.  After all, if you indoctrinate youngsters from an early age into the mentality that the nanny state “gives” them their rights, they will have no problem asking for permission to exercise them. Nor will they be appalled or angered when the nanny state doesn’t grant said permission.

Just par for the course.

An interesting note.  During a search on the author, I came across this discussion. Apparently, the author of the article, Phyllis Naegeli, admitted she incorrectly wrote the piece after tracking down the online discussion two years ago.


From what I have discovered an article I wrote for edhelper.com because quite a point of controversy on your forum the other day. I am being accused of spreading left-wing propaganda, being a Pelosi relative, and other such incorrect titles. I am a Christian and I own up to mistakes that I make. I made a mistake in these articles by saying the government gives us rights. The government is to protect the rights we are given by God. For that I apologize and ask for forgiveness. I am far from being left wing. I chose the incorrect words to try to simply describe what being a citizen is. I never intended for anyone to be offended by this or to spread some incorrect information to children. I home educated all of my children and have been very careful about what they were taught. I have taught them to be loyal citizens of our wonderful country. I have asked edhelper to change the wording as follows:

FROM:
Rights are special privileges the government gives you.

TO:
As a citizen you have special privileges called rights. The government protects those rights.

FROM:
Because the government gives us rights, we have the duty to be good citizens.

TO:
Because the government protects our rights, we have the duty to be good citizens.

Hopefully, this will clear up any controversy.


So if the author of the piece admitted her error and sought to correct and change the text, my question is: WHY ARE FAIRFAX COUNTY SCHOOLS STILL USING THE ORIGINAL, APPALLINGLY INCORRECT VERSION?

It looks like the spammer from hell finally relented, and the spam comments have died down to a dull roar of about 20 per day.  I’m guessing the spam bot finally broke, or someone discovered who was behind the thousands of spam comments daily, found them and beat them over the head with a brick until very, very dead.

It was not me.  Just FYI.

Ergo, I’m removing the moderation from comments.  Post away, and remember the basic rules. I don’t delete anyone for their opinions, and I don’t mind insults aimed either at me or at anyone else.  But post threats, spam or anything of the sort, and I’ll boot your ass.

Williamson does it again

I’ve always enjoyed Michael Williamson’s novels in the Freehold universe. I remember writing a review for “Freehold,” and thinking, “I really want to move there.”  His new one “Rogue” his one is no exception. The book contains the hi-speed, lo-drag action we’ve come to expect from Mike’s work, but the thought behind the character, his mental and emotional trauma despite being a highly-trained military operative, and the effort Williamson spent developing the character was really top notch. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to preview the novel in its earlier stages, but my assessment of its quality has not changed since the book’s release.

When we last read about Kenneth Chinran in “The Weapon,” he was dealing with his own demons after destroying Earth’s infrastructure and causing the deaths of millions of people. This is a character with a conscience and a depth of emotion. He had to deal with the deaths of his teammates. He had to take care of his small daughter. He had to confront his own guilt about destroying millions of innocent lives despite the knowledge that the destruction he and his team wreaked were essentially self defense.

In this novel, Chinran (now using the name “Dan”) is forced to confront another demon – a rogue operative from his team, originally thought dead and now working as a paid assassin. Assigned to stop the rogue by the very man who ordered the attack on earth in the previous book and who ostensibly was responsible for the consequences, Chinran must work with a relatively inexperienced troop and deal with his own memories and traumatic experiences.

I won’t say any more than this about the plot, because I don’t want to ruin it. I will say that while I enjoy the action and adventure in the novel, I love being dropped into this libertarian-leaning society and exploring the depths of a mind (Chinran’s) that has dealt with trauma, the exhilaration, the horrors of war, the difficulties and doubts that come with military service and protecting his homeland and his way of life.

I can’t imagine it’s a foreign concept to many of the readers here, given how many military vets visit this blog.

If you’re wondering whether you should run right out and get this book…

…my state senator has been campaigning (in PUBLIC schools) and trying to secure private meetings with teachers! As if we needed any more evidence that Toddy Puller has been in the legislature entirely too long. She is a reliable lefty loon vote in the Senate of Virginia, and oh, doesn’t believe in the castle doctrine, which I know will thrill those of you who came to TLZ because of Nicki’s focus on gun rights and self-defense.

We desperately, desperately need to retire this woman. Oh, and she wants to limit her debates with Jeff Frederick, too. One among the ones she deigns to accept is not even in the district! Linda Puller has not had significant opposition in quite a few years. It’s time we retired her and got someone in there who’s demonstrated he’ll fight the establishment (of BOTH parties) on behalf of the citizens of the 36th district and Virginia. That someone is Jeff Frederick.

Loss and gain

Fourteen years ago on this day, I was in a hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany giving birth to my son.  I didn’t have drugs, although I wanted them.  Apparently Germans aren’t fond of drugging a mom during labor and delivery. They like to do it the natural way.  It took 15 hours. I actually went into labor on the exact day the doctors projected – September 10th – my mom’s birthday – but the Redhead took a long time to make an entrance.  So on September 11, 1997, I got a small, redheaded present.

The moment they put that tiny little person in my arms, I took a look at that bright orange hair, that tiny little nose, the little fingers and toes, and I knew I’d love him unconditionally and eternally.  He didn’t even cry. He just looked at me and blinked a couple of times.  Then the nurses took him away so they could clean him up, and he started to shriek like a banshee. Once I had him back, however, he quieted down and immediately went to sleep.

My son.

My son turned 4 when the terrorists hit us. I woke him up that day and asked him where he wanted to go for his birthday dinner. He was puffy with sleep, and he said he wanted to go to a Chinese buffet in town, because they had pizza.  And then the Towers fell and the Pentagon burned, and we didn’t go anywhere for his birthday. We stayed home, and I snuggled him and tried to explain why the world was on fire.

We all suffered loss that day. Every single American lost something or someone on September 11, 2001, regardless of whether you knew someone who died in the Towers or at the Pentagon. We all lost a piece of ourselves – a piece of America. We lost our innocence.  We lost our joy somewhere in those attacks.  I cried that day. I cried for the loss of life and what it meant to my country.  I still do.

But every year, I gain something on this date as well.  I gain a new respect and love for my son. I gain a greater understanding of his strength and the kind of unique person he’s become. I marvel at his innocence, but at the same time I can see wisdom and understanding in him. I gain another year of life and another smile as I watch him grow.  I gain more joy every single day when he and I take walks or when he puts his arms around me and tells me I’m the best mom in the world, and when he comes home from school excited about something.  He’s fearless, but observant of the world around him. He’s cautious, but he never forgets to enjoy life.  He looks out for Number One, but he’s kind to those he loves and protective of those weaker than he is.

He’s everything I could have ever hoped for, and I gain more pride every day in the kind of human being I’ve helped create.

So yes, September 11th is a day of great loss for our nation.  But it’s also a day in which I gain another year with my son. 

And that is something to celebrate.

I guess after Jimmy Hoffa’s declaration of war on job creators and anyone else who doesn’t kiss the festering carcass of Karl Marx in reverent adoration, this is what we can expect.


Hundreds of Longshoremen stormed the Port of Longview early Thursday, overpowered and held security guards, damaged railroad cars, and dumped grain that is the center of a labor dispute, said Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha.

Six guards were held hostage for a couple of hours after 500 or more Longshoremen broke down gates about 4:30 a.m. and smashed windows in the guard shack, he said.


The rub is no one got arrested.  I guess there’s one law for Zero-supporting union thugs and another for the rest of us.

Since there appears to be no more justice or law, it’s time to take action. If I was one of those security guards, I’d shoot the first bastard who came near me.  And if they didn’t issue me a weapon on the job, I’d bring a personal firearm to work.

Apparently, Jimmy Hoffa wants a war.  The union thug issued a challenge to his fellow Marxist scum yesterday -  a Labor Day message that is no doubt a part of Zero’s New Civility™.

“We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They’ve got a war, they got a war with us and there’s only going to be one winner. It’s going to be the workers of Michigan, and America. We’re going to win that war,” Jimmy Hoffa said to a heavily union crowd.

“President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let’s take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong,” Hoffa added.


Bring it on, Jimmy!  While you and your sheep bleat your obedience to the Stuttering Clusterfuck in the White House, many Americans are well armed and ready to take on you and your Great Unwashed Army of Ignorami.  I don’t think you want to start this war, but if you do, you’d better bring lots of ammo, bitch!

Andre Carson Shows Ass Again

Remember this tool?  Supposedly a former cop and intelligence professional, this is the same race-baiting, cowardly ignoramus who suggested that black legislators’ lives were in danger due to TEA Party protesters who obviously represented a “terrorist” threat to him and Congressman John Lewis.

He’s at it again, claiming Americans who demand a smaller, more accountable government (you know… those dangerous TEA Party Terrorists™) want to see blacks hanging from trees.  Oh yes, he did!

“Some of these folks in Congress right now would love to see us as second-class citizens,” he said. “Some of them in Congress right now with this Tea Party movement would love to see you and me … hanging on a tree.”

As a former “intelligence professional” this race-baiting Bag of Ass should know better than to use inflammatory rhetoric such as this.  Words have meaning, and in the intelligence field, you want to be as precise as possible about what you mean.  In this case, the New Civility™ has apparently reared its ugly head.  You know… the kind of civility that uses hyperbole to paint opponents as terrorists (because as you know, “terrorist” is the new buzzword that elicits the kind of emotion race-baiters use to get ignorami to vote for them), and then fall back on the old “Well, I was just speaking metaphorically” excuse to make a point.


His “comments respond to the frustration voiced by those in Miami,” [Carson's spokesman Jason] Tomcsi said. “People are frustrated by the inability of Congress to do something about the economy and get people back to work.”

Tomcsi said Carson believes “Tea Party members in Congress know when they vote against programs, they know who [sic.] they’re impacting. They have different priorities — their priorities are to protect millionaires, oil companies and tax cuts for the wealthy. Those people aren’t impacted by programs like child nutrition, Head Start, job training and job creation.”

Riiiiiiiiight.  Just a metaphor for taking a certain segment of the population off the government cheese… forcing them to take a certain amount responsibility for themselves and to stop blaming racism and the “rich” for every tiny wrong in their lives.

So is Carson admitting that blacks are the most affected by the removal of welfare?  And is he really claiming that removing blacks from the dole is somehow comparable to lynching?  That they can’t live without taxpayer funded government aid?

More Brit anti-gun retardery

Boris Johnson, the current mayor of London, is apparently absolutely intent on doing his part to raise a generation of hoplophobic cowards, dependent on the state for everything, including their very lives.  Apparently the skyrocketing crime rates and the continued persecution of those who take defense of themselves and their loved ones into their own hands is just not enough to satisfy the drooling Nanny Statist of London.

He wants to ensure that the children of England never even glimpse a gun, let alone the positive use thereof!  Showing kids that shooting is a sport. Showing them responsible use of firearms.  Showing them that guns can be used for recreation as well as self-defense, and that they aren’t the evil killing machines the politicians say they are.  All of that is bad.

Ergo, BoJo has decided to do his part to ensure that British kids are barred from watching Olympic shooting events next year if they receive a ticket to the Olympics via a government giveaway.

Want a (taxpayer funded) ticket, kiddies?  Well, then you won’t be getting into cool events – only ones approved by the politicians.


Children will be banned from watching shooting events under Boris Johnson’s Olympic ticket giveaway.

London schoolchildren are eligible for 125,000 Olympic tickets but these will not include any featuring guns, as Games organisers and City Hall fear a backlash from the anti-gun lobby.

Giving children tickets to the events, at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, could have appeared at odds with Mayor Boris Johnson’s bid to quell teenage gun and knife crime.

To lower teenage gun and knife crime, Boris wants to ensure that kids never see safe, responsible use of firearms.  He’s obviously been listening to senseless parasites such as Danny Bryan.


Danny Bryan, founder of Communities Against Gun and Knife Crime said: “I agree with Boris. It is good kids should enjoy the Games but there’s no way we should glorify guns.”

No.  We should glorify government dependence and foster it in every aspect of life instead.  The government is the only entity qualified to protect you, feed and clothe you.  That’s why you should encourage the welfare culture – a culture that breeds vermin such as the Daveys and the Houghtons, who squirt out fuck trophies just to get more government cheese.  This same culture will also eventually rely on the state to protect them – especially when self defense is punished by law, even if you’re trying to protect your mom from attack.

What the hell is it with the Congressional Black Caucus?  They just can’t seem to get away from the victim mentality and the penchant for creating enemies out of large groups of people.  First, there was Maxine Waters jabbering incoherently about how anyone who happens to disagree with the CBC Marxist doctrine is a racist who needs to be investigated, and sending the Tea Party “straight to hell.”

Now there’s this daft bitch, who looks like a transvestite pimp from Chelsea, and talks like Jesse Jackson in drag.


“When you look at African American males, 40% of them are unemployed, those under 30 years of age. I understand exactly the entire nation must be involved in this recovery but the black community is experiencing a great recession. That’s what we’re experiencing,” Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL) told MSNBC.

“And all of the growth in the past 30 years, we see it slipping away. From home ownership, the middle class; it’s slipping away from our hands. And it has a lot to do with many issues. Racism, shipping jobs overseas, access — no access to technology. You know, the digital divide is there and many of the new jobs that’s what it requires. So, we have a problem.”

No, the problem is not a lack of higher education or disproportionate crime rates.  I’m sure those are caused by racism too, because college diplomas aren’t being handed to African Americans, or because the taxpayers aren’t forced to pay for their college educations, or because cops are RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACIST and arrest black criminals more than they do whites, or….

It’s obviously the business world’s fault for not wanting to hire an employee with a criminal record.

It’s obviously law enforcement’s fault for… um… enforcing the law.

It’s obviously the justice system’s fault for finding a criminal guilty and sending said criminal to prison.

It’s obviously the taxpayers’ fault for not allowing the government to throw more money at failing school systems, despite the fact that pathetic FAILS such as the DC school system that has the second highest per capita spending in the country!

And it’s the Tea Party’s fault, because they’re obviously RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACist for pointing all that out and demanding some damn accountability in government spending!

Do I have that right, Maxine? Frederica? Jesse?

Look, it’s not just these dimwits’ fault.  They’re pandering to their idiot constituencies who will cast a vote for them as long as they’re told that the nation owes them, that it’s all Whitey McCracker’s fault that their lots in life are lousy and their failures can only be attributed to racism.

That kind of rhetoric is tough to beat.  Never mind that it’s racist in and of itself.  It tells African Americans that they can’t make it without government handouts.  It tells them they’re entitled to a job, an education and money by virtue of their skin color. It tells them they’re disadvantaged and unable to exist without policies that address those “disadvantages.”  And mostly, it tells them that no matter what happens, it’s not their fault.  Personal responsibility be damned! Their skin color entitles them to abdicate said responsibility and claim victim status!

Ken Vaughn and the Second Amendment

A while ago, I introduced you to my friend Ken Vaughn, who is running for Congress in Virginia’s 11th District. While initially we thought he’d be running in the 10th, a bit of irritating redistricting has made him a candidate in the 11th. 

The district may have changed, but the man hasn’t. Let’s put aside the fact that Ken’s a friend, and focus on my pet issue – gun control. 

A while ago, I sent Ken a survey I created to gauge his views on gun control and ultimately publish them here.  It’s time to do so.  While there are a few replies on which I would challenge him, Ken accurately reflects the views of a true gun rights supporter.  I’ll address my disagreements at the end of this article, but for now, here are Ken’s survey replies in their entirety – unchanged in any way.

Generally, what’s your view of the Second Amendment to the US Constitution? What was its intent? Is it applicable today?

Ultimately, the Second Amendment was designed to protect and preserve the individual right of self-defense in all forms. However, the lead-in clause, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,” emphasizes the most critical reason for the Amendment.

The Founders recognized that the biggest threat to the individual was not from wild animals or the common criminal; it was from an organized army coming to take away the rights of the people and with the people being prevented from defending themselves. And the Founders were keenly aware that the army might be acting on the orders of the domestic government. Thus, in order to maintain a free state, the Founders knew there had to be a mechanism by which individuals could band together to defend themselves with short notice. This is the intent of a “militia.”

Whereas the body of the Constitution gives Congress the authority to control and fund the Army and Navy, Congress has no such authority over militia. The militia is intended to be a self-armed fighting force that answers to its individual members and thus is able to counter a government that tries to violate the will of the people. The Founders realized that this right would always be necessary to protect their Constitutional Republic, even 235 years later.

Is the right to keep and bear arms protected from infringement by all levels of government?
As initially written, it is debatable; however, the Fourteenth Amendment removes any debate on this subject. “No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; … nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.” Thus, the modern Constitution is clear. No state has the right to “abridge the privilege” of an individual to “keep and bear arms.”
 
Are there any gun control laws you consider constitutional?

An individual may be deprived of rights after following due process. As a result, I believe it is reasonable to require a background check when selling a firearm to determine if someone has been deprived of the right to keep and bear arms. This would address issues related to mental instability as well as criminal behavior.

Further, many rights are granted with age, on the assumption that individuals reaching a certain age have the maturity to understand the responsibilities that accompany those rights. Thus, it may be reasonable for states to define minimum ages for gun ownership.
 
How do you feel about licensing – whether to carry concealed or own a firearm, in general?

I believe that this is a violation of the intent of the Second Amendment. While it may be a seemingly minor infringement, giving the government the ability to grant a license implicitly gives the government the right to deny a license. The Constitution is clear; the right to keep (concealed) and bear (visible) arms shall not be infringed (without due process).
 
How do you feel about attempts to close “the gun show loophole?”

This is largely an overblown issue. Any registered dealer performs a background check anyway for liability reasons; thus, the only sales that get through this “loophole” are sales between private citizens. Further, I believe it is foolhardy to try to regulate firearm sales between private parties. Any such law is likely to imprison well-meaning individuals while criminals will easily ignore the law. It would be better to focus on efforts to make it easy for individuals to check the background of a potential purchaser. Responsible people will be glad to use such a service, but requiring a lot of extra paperwork is not likely to solve any problems.
 
What gun control laws would you like to see repealed?

First and foremost would be the laws that prevent keeping and bearing arms when traveling by car throughout the country. This would include bans on guns within the nation’s capital, the national parks, and within the proximity of schools and other facilities, which unnecessarily result in criminal charges for non-violent and law-abiding Americans.  

How do you feel about civilians owning military-style weapons? How about machine guns?

I believe the intent of the Second Amendment was to guarantee the right of the individual to provide for his own self-defense against an aggressor. Under normal scenarios, the individual only needs to be able to protect himself from another individual; this can be achieved without a machine gun.

Under the worst-case scenario, the aggressor might be an organized army. However, I believe that this is one of the reasons why the founders included the statement “a well regulated militia.” The assumption is that a community would band together to fend off an invading army.

In fact, it would be inappropriate to allow an individual to own sufficient weaponry to single-handedly defend himself against an army. Allowing such a situation would encourage every criminal to have such protection against the police – at which point, there would be anarchy rather than a constitutional republic.

The correct balance is not for an individual or small group to have a huge amount of firepower in a single weapon, but rather to have every individual equipped with sufficient firepower to provide for his or her own self-defense. Thus, an invading army would arguably have to kill every last person to declare victory. This would certainly be a hollow victory if the army were domestic to the country.

While I can respect other opinions, I am inclined to say that fully automatic weapons should be restricted to the military.
 
How do you feel about the Gun Free School Zones Act?

School shootings were virtually unheard of before the law was passed, averaging fewer than one per year nationwide. We are now averaging more than 10 incidents per year. While I believe this is largely attributable to other factors, it does demonstrate that:

1.    The law has not worked.
2.    When you ban guns, only the criminals will have them.

I do not claim that violence would decrease if guns were allowed, nor do I think it would increase; I think there are other reasons for the increase in violence. However, I do believe that the law violates our rights. Given the poor track record of this law, it seems clear that it should be repealed.
 
How do you feel about peaceable, law-abiding citizens being unable to carry their firearms on federal property?

In general, I believe average citizens should be allowed to have firearms wherever they go. The only exceptions would be in environments where an accidental discharge could result in a massive disaster affecting a large group of people, for example, on an airplane. In these environments, I could see restricting the possession of guns to authorized personnel.
 
How do you feel about American citizens who are placed on watchlists (without judicial oversight or reasonable proof of guilt of any type) being denied their right to keep and bear arms?

The Constitution is clear; the government does not have the right to deny anyone their rights without due process.
 
Tell me your views on the following:
 
•         Attempts to raise the legal age for owning a handgun from 18 to 21 years?

I believe 18 year-olds should have all of the rights and responsibilities of every other adult.
 
•         Attempts to limit handgun purchases to one per month?

I believe this is unnecessary and arbitrary.
 
•         Attempts to ban .50 caliber firearms?

I believe this is unnecessary, but within the right of a state to impose in claiming that this is military-grade ammunition (i.e., I don’t agree with the argument, but I will concede it is within a gray zone).
 
•         Ammunition bans?

The Second Amendment protects the right to self-defense, which necessitates both the base weapon and the ammunition. I believe any outright ban would be unconstitutional.
 
 
How do you feel about background checks? Constitutional? Effective at preventing crime?

As discussed above, I believe that background checks are constitutional to the extent that they merely ensure that the individual has not had his or her rights removed through due process. I believe that there are at least some cases where they can be effective when adequately applied, in particular with the mentally ill. However, I believe this decision should be left to the states.

Other thoughts.

Ensuring second amendment rights for all Americans is an important issue, but I believe the two biggest issues facing our country are the national debt and improving private sector job creation by growing our economy. I agree with former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, that our national debt is our biggest national security threat and that we cannot solve our debt problem unless we repair our national economy. Nonetheless, I am concerned about how gun rights have been eroded over the years, and the above answers reflect my beliefs on this topic and should provide an idea of how I will vote when various Second Amendment issues arise.


For the most part, Ken and I are in complete agreement.  Our skyrocketing debt is one of the biggest national threats we face today.  But as you can imagine, our views couldn’t be more different on military-style weapons.  So in the interest of ensuring you hear both sides of the issue, here’s mine.

The Second Amendment doesn’t just guarantee an individual the right of self-defense against an aggressor.  It also guarantees that an individual has the tools necessary to stand up to a tyrannical government should it become necessary.  As Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist 28

In a single State, if the persons intrusted with supreme power become usurpers, the different parcels, subdivisions, or districts of which it consists, having no distinct government in each, can take no regular measures for defense.

The citizens must rush tumultuously to arms, without concert, without system, without resource; except in their courage and despair. The usurpers, clothed with the forms of legal authority, can too often crush the opposition in embryo.

Realistically, of course, one person has no chance against an army, even if said person has an automatic weapon.  But the purpose of the Second Amendment was to ensure that the people have the means and the right to stand up to a tyranny, and automatic weapons provide just such a means.

Secondly, automatic weapons are legal now. I’ve shot them, and so has my son.  Crimes committed with them are few and far between.  According to GunCite (the information is a bit dated, but overall I imagine this hasn’t changed a whole lot):


In 1995 there were over 240,000 machine guns registered with the ATF. About half are owned by civilians and the other half by police departments and other governmental agencies.

Since 1934, there appear to have been at least two homicides committed with legally owned automatic weapons. One was a murder committed by a law enforcement officer (as opposed to a civilian). On September 15th, 1988, a 13-year veteran of the Dayton, Ohio police department, Patrolman Roger Waller, then 32, used his fully automatic MAC-11 .380 caliber submachine gun to kill a police informant, 52-year-old Lawrence Hileman. Patrolman Waller pleaded guilty in 1990, and he and an accomplice were sentenced to 18 years in prison. The 1986 ‘ban’ on sales of new machine guns does not apply to purchases by law enforcement or government agencies.

The other homicide, possibly involving a legally owned machine gun, occurred on September 14, 1992, also in Ohio.

In Targeting Guns, [Gary] Kleck cites the director of ATF testifying before Congress that he knew of less than ten crimes that were committed with legally owned machine guns (no time period was specified). Kleck says these crimes could have been nothing more than violations of gun regulations such as failure to notify ATF after moving a registered gun between states.

Crime Involving Illegally Owned Machine Guns

Again in Targeting Guns, Kleck writes, four police officers were killed in the line of duty by machine guns from 1983 to 1992. (713 law enforcement officers were killed during that period, 651 with guns.)

In 1980, when Miami’s homicide rate was at an all-time high, less than 1% of all homicides involved machine guns. (Miami was supposedly a “machine gun Mecca” and drug trafficking capital of the U.S.) Although there are no national figures to compare to, machine gun deaths were probably lower elsewhere. Kleck cites several examples:

Of 2,200 guns recovered by Minneapolis police (1987-1989), not one was fully automatic.

A total of 420 weapons, including 375 guns, were seized during drug warrant executions and arrests by the Metropolitan Area Narcotics Squad (Will and Grundie counties in the Chicago metropolitan area, 1980-1989). None of the guns was a machine gun.

 16 of 2,359 (0.7%) of the guns seized in the Detroit area (1991-1992) in connection with “the investigation of narcotics trafficking operations” were machine guns.

The point is that many people own machine guns. There are organized machine gun shoots that take place every year, and there are few issues that occur when automatic weapons are in civilian hands.

My point is that it is not only wholly appropriate for regular citizens to own automatic weapons, it’s also fun, and making them pay fees and jump through bureaucratic hoops in order to own one is abuse of government authority.

My other slight point of contention is the background check.  I just have an issue with submitting to a background check in order to exercise a fundamental right.  Additionally, a person’s mental health is a private matter. I realize we want to keep guns out of the hands of crazies, but requiring a background check to include psychiatric information is a violation of doctor/patient privilege.  Additionally, a prohibited person is far less likely to come into a gun shop and submit him or herself to a background check. It’s much easier to purchase the firearm on the street – cheaper and more convenient.  I don’t see background checks as being an effective deterrent against a prohibited person purchasing a firearm.  The only thing they would do is prevent a prohibited person from purchasing a firearm LEGALLY.  And overall, I don’t think forcing a law-abiding citizen to undergo an intrusion such as this is worth it.

I know there are very few politicians with whom I will agree 100 percent.  Ken states his views clearly and logically, and regardless of whether we agree on these issues, I still believe in him and in his potential as a future Congressman.

Politics as Usual

I’ve never blogged much on Virginia politics.  I know what the issues are. Having lived and worked in Northern Virginia for the past 13 years, commuted 90 miles from Stephens City to Washington DC and worked in both DC and Northern Virginia, I’m intimately familiar with the transportation issues, as well as jobs and economic challenges.  Now that I’ve moved to Arlington, those issues have become even more relevant to my life.

That said, I still haven’t blogged about Virginia issues. My interests have always been national. That’s why it’s unusual for me to delve into the world of the Virginia primaries that are going to take place on Tuesday (August 23rd, for those of you who aren’t sure).  I’ll be honest. It’s not my district.  I live in the 31st.  Ergo what goes on in the 36th District does not affect me directly.  However, what happens in Virginia overall does affect me, and I have an interest in ensuring the best, brightest and most focused candidate goes to Richmond.

Rob has already blogged about Tito Munoz and Jeff Frederick.  He’s exposed Tito’s near obsessive Hispandering and his baseless attacks on Jeff.  I sat by and watched and agreed.  This race shouldn’t be about ethnicity. It should be about issues.  Issues such as the perpetual Northern Virginia gridlock and job incentives and taxes.  Not about who which candidate is “the real Latino,” as one of his zealot supporters put on her Facebook page recently.  And not until one of Tito’s frothing fans came over here and attacked me personally, did I decide to take a more active role in blogging about this race.

I’ve been aware of Jeff Frederick for quite a while.  In 2003, the National Rifle Association saw it fit to endorse Jack Rollison over Jeff Frederick.  Jack Rollison, who saw fit to call Virginia members of Virginia Citizens Defense League and Gun Owners of America “extremist and milita-esque [sic.].”

At the time of the endorsement, Rollison wasn’t even an NRA member.  Jeff was.  But Jeff wasn’t an establishment candidate, and Rollison was.  You can guess how quickly Jack Rollison ran out and joined the NRA when that little tidbit came out!

Nonetheless, despite the establishment being completely against him, Jeff won, and he continued to do what was best for the people, not what was best for the politicians.  The establishment didn’t like that.

Fast forward to today.  Today Jeff Frederick is running for the state senate against Tito Munoz.  Munoz, who was propelled into the spotlight during the 2008 elections by the McCain/Palin campaign.  Munoz, who has the support of some of Virginia’s most established politicians – George Allen, Prince William County Supervisor Mike May and Fairfax County Supervisor Pat Herrity.  He also garnered the endorsements of a Citizens United affiliate and FreedomWorks. Fair enough.  I’m not questioning Tito’s conservative creds.  He appears to be pretty conservative – for less government, lower taxes, etc. 

But then again, so is Jeff Frederick. As he admitted in the debate I have posted below, he and Tito are pretty similar in their conservative views, and I dare say, Jeff has quite a few details about what he believes and about his record on his site.  And quite a few endorsements, including (finally!) the NRA, VCDL (that saw it fit to endorse Jeff with the knowledge that he has been the true pro-Second Amendment candidate during his entire career), Americans for Prosperity, the Tea Party Express, and others have stated that Jeff is the best candidate to represent the 36th in Richmond.

So what’s the difference between the two?

As far as I can see, the big one is character.  Only one candidate has repeatedly (and hypocritically) attacked his opponent.  Only one candidate has barely focused on the issues affecting Northern Virginia today, but chose instead to focus on the non-issue of his opponent’s business practices, that were not only legal but were similarly practiced by the accuser himself.  Only one candidate made his ethnicity an issue in this race.  And that candidate was not Jeff Frederick.

I met Tito Munoz once at a Republican function.  He seemed a nice, genuine enough guy.  I appreciate the fact that he’s an immigrant who built a business here in the United States and has become a success.  I appreciate that.  But after seeing the way he conducted his campaign and the short debate below, I believe there’s only one candidate who is the right man for the job of taking on Toddy Puller in the next election. 

And that man is Jeff Frederick.

A few things I noted in this debate, as someone who worked in public affairs and broadcasting for nearly a decade.

1 – Tito started to lose his cool.  He obviously has a temper and he very nearly pitched a tantrum on this show.  If there’s one thing I do know, it’s that you never allow your opponent to ruffle you!  NEVER!  But it was quite obvious that when Jeff Frederick pulled out concrete, paper evidence that Tito attempted to take advantage of the same types of federal programs for “disadvantaged” minorities that helped make Jeff Frederick’s business a success, Tito began to lose it.

2 – Tito doesn’t understand the difference between federal and state affairs.  When called on the carpet by Jeff about his references to federal issues, Tito tried to save face by mumbling inanities about how state senators should work together with Virginia’s senators in Washington… uh… yeah.  OK.  This isn’t the first time Tito got confused, either.  Maybe he needs to actually understand the job before pretending he’s  the right candidate for the job.  I’m not the only one who thinks so.  Greg Letiecq blogged it as well.

3 – Tito’s claim that Virginia needs a candidate who is there to serve the people, not make a name for himself seems spurious coming from someone who has been calling himself “Tito the Builder” and making public appearances in a Halloween costume and began to believe his own hype after Palin pointed the spotlight in his direction.

4 – And my final issue with Tito’s performance is the implication that somehow Virginia’s 36th District Senator somehow needs to treat immigrants differently and bond with the immigrant community in order to be a good representative of the people.  I disagree.  I’m an immigrant.  A legal one.  I don’t want preferential treatment. I don’t want my representative to bond with me as an immigrant. I want my representative to bond with me as a human being who has needs and rights just like any other.  I am not different because I’m an immigrant. I have the same rights, I face the same challenges, and I have the same values as others who were born in America.  And I’m sick and tired of politicians trying to pander to immigrants, making them feel different, special and somehow deserving of special attention.

Enough already!

As far as I can see, Tito Munoz is simply not ready for prime time. He doesn’t understand the job, he plays typical attack politics and he has likely alienated a lot of people with these tactics. Whoever is advising him should be fired, and Tito should go back to the drawing board and learn a bit more about the people whom he seeks to represent.

Who chooses?

I’m curious.  Who is it that chooses Presidential candidates in this Republic of ours?  As a bicameral, constitutional republic we certainly incorporate some elements of democracy into our political system, but it seems to make very little difference.  The same stale “leaders” (and I use that term loosely) get the nod election after election, and Americans are left holding their noses and voting for either the turd sandwich or the giant douche (See: Election 2008).

So why is it that we wind up with two (for the most part) crappy choices every single election season?  Who really chooses the candidates?  Some of you will argue that the American public selects the candidates, which is technically true, but the American public is lazy.  The American public cannot make a selection unless it is staring them in the face from their hi-def television. Americans won’t research available candidates, unless that research involves being spoon-fed information by the pundits and news networks.  And they definitely won’t take the time to research a candidate whose name they have never heard before.

If they aren’t familiar with the name, why not?

That’s where the selection process is removed from the people.  The media decides who is a viable candidate and promotes only the candidates the mainstream establishment believes are worthy.  Pollsters decide whom to include in national surveys based on some nebulous criteria of “viability,” and the people never become fully informed on all the available candidates.

The latest example of this is the egregious exclusion of former New Mexico governor Gary Johnson from the last two debates, and from every national poll, including the last one done by Rasmussen.

Two things struck me as curious in the first question of this poll.  First is that the candidates appear to be listed in their order of “viability,” as promoted by the “establishment” and the media.  Rick Perry – considered the current “savior” of the GOP, despite his fairly RINO-like record.  Bachmann – the winner of the Ames straw poll with her ability to pay off supporters to show up show their support.  Herman Cain – despite his lack of ability to articulate specifics on his foreign policy, his distinct lack of knowledge on Second Amendment issues, his record of supporting the very bailouts and mechanisms that helped bring on the current economic and fiscal crisis.  Ron Paul – despite his near-tie with Michele Bachmann (he lost by less than 200 votes) in Ames, he’s still considered an unelectable candidate by the mainstream, but the media can no longer ignore his presence (although Politico tried with the following headline: Michele Bachmann wins Ames Straw Poll, Tim Pawlenty gets third (the headline was altered after an understandable outcry from Americans about the obvious bias against Ron Paul, and now just reads: Michele Bachmann wins Ames Straw Poll, because obviously, if they alter it, it never existed, despite the oodles of people who saw the headline).  Santorum (crazy evil), Gingrich (odiously evil), Huntsman (Democrat) come next, and Thad McCotter, who has less name recognition than an extra in the crowd scene of the latest disaster movie, and therefore will likely get less votes than Barack Obama at a John Birch Society poll.

The second thing that struck me is the conspicuous absence of Gary Johnson.  Yet again.  A successful two-term governor who has a stellar record on growth and an unmatched record on economic and fiscal issues, who is a true fiscal conservative, who was one of the first to announce his candidacy, who has been working like hell to promote his name in a field that all but ignores him.  Completely excluded from the poll. 

And because he’s excluded from most national polls, he does not qualify to participate in national debates, where one of the criteria is that the candidate must have a certain percentage of support, it’s a vicious circle.  The media excludes him, because he – in their view – is not a viable candidate.  The polls exclude him, because… well, who the hell knows?  Probably because he’s a threat to the establishment and doesn’t fall into any particular mold of what has become mainstream Republican or Democrat due to his fiscal conservatism and tendency to stay out of the personal lives of Americans.  And the voters never get to know an excellent candidate for whom they might conceivably want to vote without holding their nose.

So who chooses the candidate?

Less and less it’s the American people, and more and more it’s the establishment that doesn’t want to threaten its power, authority and general status quo.

And who loses? 

We all do.

So, I finally received a Tito Muñoz mailer… a week before the primary.

…amusing in itself, but not the main thrust of this post.

The mailer has the address on one side, along with the return address for Friends of Tito Munoz on the top, and below that, is a photo of a black guy wearing a flannel shirt and construction hat, looking all blue-collary. It’s accompanied by the following caption:

“The Federal Government has a program to assist Disadvantaged Minority Business Owners.

Guess who was in this program FOR 9 YEARS…” *arrow*

The reverse side has a picture of Jeff Frederick, with a photo of a piece of paper with some SBA data for Jeff’s business (interestingly, the SBA logo was cut-and-pasted onto the photo. Hmmm.) with the caption:

“State Senate Candidate Jeff Frederick was in this program.

State Senate Candidate Jeff Frederick took advantage of a government program for minority owned businesses, by claiming he was a disadvantaged minority both socially and economically – all while he was a sitting member of the House of Delegates and the Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia.

In Fact, Frederick reported in Dun & Bradstreet that his company grossed $3 MILLION. Disadvantaged? Really??

When it comes to Jeff Frederick… It’s all about Jeff Frederick.”

THIS is what the Muñoz campaign has for us, at the last minute? Seriously? Really? I’ve already debunked this false outrage, not least by pointing out that Tito’s business was ALSO registered with the SBA as a minority-owned disadvantaged business. I abhor the existence of the SBA and in particular, these identity-based programs, but as I said before, if they’re there and you can take advantage of them when you’re starting a business, you do it, bottom line. Both guys did.

This sort of rubbish negativity by Tito Muñoz and his handlers at Desumo Strategies is too little, too late and too ridiculous to avert the impending blowout primary loss to Jeff. Jeff is ignoring it for the most part, as he should. It’s a sign of a doomed, flailing candidate and campaign grasping at straws. Best of luck, boys. You’re toast.

A truer cartoon has never been drawn

For those of you unfamiliar with “Project Gunrunner,” it’s an ATF scheme to allow straw purchases of guns in the United States by those connected with Mexican drug cartels, then allow the guns to “walk” over the border into Mexico, then make their way into the paws of violent thugs – all under the watchful eye of the US gubmint, allowing them to track the guns and capture the bad guys.

Not so much, that.

The program was a FAIL. The ATF lost track of said guns.  American law enforcement officers died. Attorney General Eric Holder denied knowledge until “very recently” – at least until recorded proof surfaced in which he bragged about the program at a Mexican function.

Ooops!

There’s enough corruption to go around in this mess.

That means every comment submitted on this blog will have to be manually approved by me or Rob.  It’s a pain in the ass for us both, but frankly, I’m sick and tired of these pus-licking bungholes fucking with my blog, and if this is what I have to do to put a stop to it, I will.

Payback’s a bitch!

Gen. Allen said the military tracked the Taliban fighters for several days after the helicopter went down. Forces reportedly trailed the fighters to a position in Chak District, Wardak Province, and then US F-16s struck and killed them Tuesday.

“The strike killed Taliban leader Mullah Mohibullah and the insurgent who fired the shot associated with the Aug. 6 downing of the CH-47 helicopter, which resulted in the deaths of 38 Afghan and coalition service members,” the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said in a statement.

According to the statement, the two men were attempting to flee the country in order to avoid capture. The strike killed them along with “several” Taliban associates.

A Letter From a Friend

My friend Dan Wolfe is one of the most talented people you will ever meet.  A former Army officer, broadcaster, actor and generally all around nice guy (and take note of this day, because you will never hear me praise an Army Colonel so exuberantly again), Dan is also a gifted writer.

He sent me an open letter to our politicians today, and has given me what I like to think is exclusive permission to post it here.  If it’s not exclusive, screw it, I’m posting it anyway!

So without further delay….

Dear Federal Politicians:

Hey folks!  Hope you’re all enjoying your recess – I know the FAA isn’t, but that’s another story.

I’m writing to you because I have two small children with whom I reside, and their behavior has too many disturbing similarities to you folks to ignore anymore.  Let’s face it, boys and girls, you’ve been bad, bad politicians.  Shame on you!  How would your mothers feel if they knew you were behaving like preschoolers?

Since you’re all running around the house screaming at each other just as my preschoolers are, (except for Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who is my new hero – she’s got more guts than all of you put together) I’m going to take this opportunity as your American “parent” to correct your behavior and remind you how people are supposed to behave.

(Imagine be standing over you shaking my finger at you while reading this.  Good.  Thanks.)

Stop calling each other names!  Ok, I know that it’s easy to point fault at your playmates, but really, even though “stick and stones may break my bones…” and all that, it’s petty, accomplishes nothing and makes you and the rest of our American family look bad.  Knock it off.  Now.

My mom and dad always taught me that if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.  Here’s another one upon which you will be able to rely as you go through this developmentally awkward period:  “Tis better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.”  

Stop the finger pointing!  I don’t like tattletales and I don’t care who did it first!  I want it to stop and stop now.   ‘Nuff said about that one.

Stop blaming your playmates for your bad behavior!  When you try this hard to blame someone else for your goofs and gaffes, it’s very clear that you’re just doing it because you feel guilty and just want that bad attention on someone else other than you.  If you screw up, admit it.  Your American parents (i.e. the electorate) will go much easier on you if you just admit that what you did was wrong than if you try and blame your playmate or hide it.

Absolutely NO playtime until your homework is done!  Your “school” gives you way too much time for recess.  While I know that you and your playmates need to go outside and play for awhile, (it’s supposed to build social skills and teamwork – how’s that working out for you?) you really shouldn’t go outside and play until all your work is done.  Your American parents aren’t allowed to leave their work until they’ve done what their bosses have assigned them.  You and your playmates shouldn’t either.

You’re spending your allowance on all the wrong things!   If I could take away your allowance, I would because you’ve been particularly careless.  I know that you and your playmates all love to run to the corner store and buy things like wax lips, those little candy dots on paper and comic books.   And I know how yummy and fun those things are, but really, you can’t spend all your allowance on those things.  A little bit’s fine, but not ALL of it, for goodness sake!  Now, I know you and your playmates are too immature to understand even the basics of how to handle having an allowance.  But in the long run, if you learn now how money works, you’ll be much better off, instead of just looking forward to your next candy fix (election.)  I’ll try to teach you, but you have to be willing to listen a little bit, ok?

Kids, what I guess I’m trying to tell you is best summed up by the lesson from “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” a cute little movie that you can see when you stop behaving like toddlers:  “Be excellent to each other.”   Yeah.  That’s always a good rule of thumb.

Now do you understand what I’ve just said?   You sure?  Good.  Now go sit in time out for fifteen minutes and when you’re done, you can go play with your playmates again.

Don’t cry – it’ll be ok.  Want a juice box?

I would have added a section entitled, “Stop sending photos of your weiner to girls – yes, I’m talking to you, Anthony!” but that might have been overkill.

Budget for Dummies

Republican Congressman Jeff Fortenberry explains the debt so that even a kindergartner can understand it.

As Congressman Fortenberry explained, both political parties are responsible for the insane overspending spree currently going on in government.  I’m not going to blame this on one side or the other.

I will say this, however:

I absolutely resent Joe Biden, Mike Doyle, Luis Gutierrez and other leftard scumbags comparison of TEA Party members and Republicans to terrorists! I resent it to my very core!  This administration has basically doubled government spending in 10 years!  It has driven the national debt to the size of our entire GDP!  And Doyle has the audacity to complain that “This small group of terrorists have [sp.] made it impossible to spend any money.”

This small group of “terrorists” as Doyle calls them are representing the American people – Americans who, according to Gallup, overwhelmingly prefer spending cuts as a tool for reducing the deficit.

The government had enough money NOT to default.  Revenues are $200 billion monthly.  Interest on the debt is a staggering $29 billion.  Other mandatory spending is between $116 and $120 billion per month. We had enough, despite the liberals’ scare tactics about default.  It was the President’s choice not to pay that interest payment. It was his choice to default. We had the money, but the Leftards decided it was easier to threaten payments to granny, threaten not to pay the military and threaten to default on our debt if they didn’t get their way.

So who are the terrorists in this scenario?

Wait! Don’t answer that!

People who want to control government spending – no matter whether or not you agree with the way they do it – are not terrorists.

People who want fiscal responsibility from their government are not to be compared to murdering scum that flies planes into buildings.

People who demand that we live within our means are not the same as people who murdered 3000 Americans to attain their political goals.

And that is exactly what TEA Party members demand – fiscal responsibility from their government.  As my friend and Congressional candidate Ken Vaughn so eloquently put it recently, “One of the three core principles of the Tea Party movement is fiscal responsibility. We believe that the government should make repaying its debt its #1 priority.”

It was the President who repeatedly threatened not to pay our bondholders.

It was the President who petulantly threatened to default if is spending spree wasn’t approved by Congress.

Does that make him a terrorist?

I am sick and tired of the whining, hysterical hyperbole!  Do your goddamn jobs, Congress.  If you haven’t learned your lesson last November, here’s a reminder:

YOU CAN BE REPLACED.

And comparing Americans who demand change from their government, as is their right to do, to terrorist scum is one sure way to ensure a one-way ticket back to the private sector.

If there WAS a God…

The Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church, known for their protests at the funerals of American soldiers killed in Iraq, has threatened to picket the burials of victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Norway.

A press release from the church, titled “Norway must repent or perish,” announces protests at the funerals “to warn the living: they died for your sins.” The message goes on to describe the perpetrator of the attacks, Anders Behring Breivik, as “formed” and “appointed” by God and “sent… to punish Norway,” adding that “Norway made being a fag legal in 1972, and passed laws for fags to marry and adopt children in 2008. Did you think God would wink at that in-your-face sin forever?.”

Tito Muñoz plays identity politics…Sure you’re Republican, pal?

Yesterday, in a piece in the Washington Post, our good friend Tito Muñoz came up with a novel idea… Let’s have a debate in Spanish… BVBL and Virginia Virtucon have already administered some well-deserved mockery, but this really cries out for some serious piling on, so who am I to restrain myself… plus I just LOVE the race card being played. So away we go…

In this WaPo piece, Tito says…

Munoz rolls his eyes at Frederick’s identification as a Hispanic: “If you are born here in the United States and have never lived in another country, how do you know what it is to be Hispanic?” Munoz said.

So that’s how it is, eh? We’re going to straight-up pander to certain demographic that typical votes Democrat anyhow because of our background? Really? Srriously? Sure you’re in the right party, Tito? Not too late to switch and support our current incumbent! I’m sure she’d love these tactics, and would enlist youas her “Hispanic chairman” at the drop of a hat! You love to remind everyone that you’re hardcore Hispanic like your buddy McCain reminded everyone that he was a “maverick” (but now he denies that) every five seconds. Run on your vision for Virginia and your constituents in the 36th District.

For those who’ve known and/or followed Jeff Frederick’s career, we know he’s Hispanic, he just doesn’t feel the need to define himself in those terms. He’s an American whose mom happens to be Colombian, Alpha, omega. That simple. His policy stances and personality stand on their own.

There’s a reason the usual establishment suspects have gathered behind Tito to try to stop Jeff. He stuck his thumb in their eye frequently in Richmond, as Delegate and as RPV Chair. That’s the kind of guy I want representing me. A guy with courage, commitment and integrity. As he put it, he didn’t go to Richmond “to make any friends.” Jeff should respond to this with scornful silence and let this boomerang on the Muñoz campaign. Tito seems from my experience like a great guy, but he needs to reboot his campaign and look at who he is and why he wants to be a Senator from the 36th District. I think maybe he doesn’t understand that America is a place, not an idea, and we do have an intrinsic culture and heritage.

Lesson Learned

I just finished a book written by a friend of mine.  Ilana Mercer calls Into the Cannibal’s Pot: Lessons for America from Post-Apartheid South Africa a “labor of love to my homelands, old and new.”  I call it a dire warning to a nation that has become my beloved homeland – America.

Ilana wanted to see a review from a woman’s perspective. She also wanted to see what a gun rights advocate would say about the book.  And while I am, in fact, a woman and a gun rights advocate, the book struck me on a deeper level – on the level of a human being who has been watching the slow, systematic deterioration of American society into petty vat of politically correct fawning to any group that claims Victim-of-the-Month status.

From a woman’s and a gun rights advocate’s perspective…

I remember reading this story a few years back and how appalled I was at the thought that any woman  would be forced to wear this contraption in order to avoid being immolated by armed criminal scum.  I wrote about this long before Ilana’s book was published, and even back then I knew this was one of the ultimate consequences of victim disarmament.



Meet the Rapex! The hollow inside is lined with rows of razor-sharp hooks, which are designed to latch on to a rapist’s penis during penetration. They can only be removed by a doctor.

I remember thinking at the time, “What kind of society allows women to become so defenseless that they would be forced to
wear this sick contraption inside them all day for fear of getting
raped instead of packing a pistol and blowing the festering piece of
shit away with one well-placed bullet? What kind of society forces
women to adapt to rape?”

Ilana answers the question in her book.  It’s a society so filled with hatred and venom for wrongs of the past, that it relishes the thought of revenge upon the perceived perpetrators – a revenge so foul, it defies description.  It’s a society that has no respect for life or property. It’s a society that is heartless, unjust and barbarian in its nature.

It’s South Africa today.

I won’t go into the heart-wrenching descriptions of the savage crimes perpetrated by South African blacks against the few whites that remain in that nation today. I will say the level of cruelty is not analogous to being a human being.  It’s not human to do what these armed thugs are doing to families, raping women, murdering husbands, fathers and sons, violating infants… They’ve become worse than animals… savages who have no respect for life, whose hatred for whites has taken over their very core and transformed them into primordial killing machines with no conscience and no heart.

And as these barbarians wander the country, preying on their victims, the South African government has made it nearly impossible for terrorized whites to legally defend their lives and their loved ones against these bloodthirsty troglodytes.

Their recourse?  Rape insurance that provides policies for victims of rape just in case they get AIDS from their rapists, which is entirely possible in a country where garlic and beetroot, as well as rape of infants is considered “medication” for the HIV positive thug.  And because the African National Congress (ANC) has no regard for life or property (at least not when it comes to its white citizens), justice is nonexistent.


“Before you can act in self-defense,” remonstrates Anton du Plessis of the Institute for Security studies, “the attack against you should have commenced, or at least be imminent.  For example, if the thief pulls out a firearm and aims in your direction, [only] then you would be justified in using lethal force to protect your life.”

If you stop to contemplate the severity of the threat against you, you could very well watch helpless as armed thugs gang rape your loved ones. If you take action, you could be arrested and charged for defending your life.  Additionally, thanks to the Firearms Control Act of 2000, firearms licenses which were previously valid for life, have to be renewed, the renewal involving reams of paperwork, testing, fees and other hoops that could drag on for years.  Effectively, the majority of lawful firearms owners in South Africa no longer have the right or the means to protect themselves from armed marauders.

But this is from a woman’s perspective… from a gun rights advocate’s perspective.

From a simple human being’s perspective, Ilana describes – honestly and directly – the true nature of this principle we call “democracy.”  She doesn’t beat around the bush or dance around uncomfortable race issues.  She states facts – facts that may be uncomfortable to those who have forgotten how to discuss race with dispassion and objectivity. Many of you know my feelings on unchecked democracy. It’s tyranny of the majority – and no matter how you couch it, it’s still tyranny.  So what happens when a previously-subservient race takes over a nation, aided by well-meaning governments and celebrities ignorant of the unintended consequences of their actions?

In the case of South Africa, the ANC made sure that the blacks were properly “compensated” for their years of inequality under the Afrikaners. Propped up by the westerners as a successful democracy, the ANC implemented policies of redistribution that allowed the government to take any property – anything from land to livestock – for any reason.  (Sound like a familiar eminent domain policy, America?)  South African land is now a “national asset” to be redistributed according to the will of the majority.  The majority just happens to be South African blacks, most of whom believe they’re entitled to whites’ property and livelihoods by virtue of being previously oppressed.  Blacks have preference in hiring, preferential treatment in courts and relative ease when stealing (legally) property they covet from whites.

Currently the minority in South Africa lives in terror – victimized by the tyranny of the majority and aided and abetted by the West, where intellectual elites sing the praises of democracy improving the lives of previously oppressed blacks.  What Ilana describes is revenge at its most foul – a majority that has apparently set out to destroy those whom it perceives to be the enemy – an enemy judged by its skin color – an enemy that they plunder, rape and have set out to destroy.

Don’t think it can happen here?

Think affirmative action quotas. Think preferential hiring. Think eminent domain.

Into the Cannibal’s Pot is a warning to America.  I have no doubt that if we allow our government to continue confiscating our land, mandating hiring practices to private companies and violating the basic principles of liberty, we will be heading in the direction of South Africa.  If we allow racist regimes to be lauded as just by politicians, regardless of which race wields control, who formulate foreign policy accordingly, we won’t be too far behind South Africa when it comes to sheer cruel prejudice and injustice.  And if we laud these regimes as moral, ethical and fair, what’s stopping us from following in their footsteps?

Maybe not now, but gradually.

Who the hell names their child CONTESSA???

No wonder Contessa (I’d spell it with a “u”) is a dumbshit. If my parents saddled me with a name like that, I’d bitch slap them stupid and promptly change my name to something less conspicuous.  It’s like naming your kid Chlamydia, ferfuckssake!

Anyway…

Contessa Brewer is a retard – no offense to retards intended.  During her interview with GOP Congressman Mo Brooks, this drooling assmonkey tried to school the Congressman on the bailout, claiming that without it, America would be in a depression. (Who can blame the blibberling buttsore for ardently defending the Great Zero, as is no doubt specified in her contract!)

Anyway…

After Congressman Brooks disagreed with Cuontessa’s astute economic assessment (no doubt using her BS – and I do mean BS – in journalism) about the Great Zero having bailed out our economy and saved us all from another Great Depression, she jumped on him like Oprah on a baked ham.  “Do you have a degree in economics?” she challenged.

His reply: “Yes ma’am, I do. Highest honors.”  Indeed, the Congressman “graduated from Duke University in three years with a double major in political science and economics, with highest honors in economics,” according to his congressional website.

Townhall Twitter GOP Presidential debate

This was a first.  The first Presidential debate on Twitter.  I was a bit annoyed, because people do tend to use irritating text language on Twitter to save space, and the last thing I want to see is “Hi, im runnin 4 pres.” I see enough of that crap on my son’s Facebook wall.

However, I quickly got over my irritation, and began to think the format was actually a good idea, because it forced the candidates to come up with concise answers to direct questions. 

Well… all except for Newt Gingrich who blathered endlessly like an Alzeimer’s patient on crystal meth.  Does that guy not realize very few people actually give a flying fuck about anything he actually has to say?

The candidates fielded questions about everything from cutting spending and balancing the budget to jobs.  And once again I ask: why does Newt not understand that yammering endlessly on Twitter about his “record” as Speaker and not providing a direct answer to the question turns most of us with half a brain off???

Best answer of the day definitely goes to Gary Johnson.  Not because I like and support him, but because he’s the only one who provided a direct, logical and clear reply to the following question:

Question 1: As president, how will you avoid continually raising the debt ceiling?

Seems like an easy enough question to answer, right?  Not for Newt. 

Gingrich: We don’t need Obama’s “balanced approach” (code for raise taxes). We need a balanced (budget?). When you balance the budget there is no need to raise the debt ceiling. I am the only candidate who has balanced the budget.

Bachmann: Only way to avoid future increases is fund. change the way we spend. We must #cutcapbalance and repeal Obamacare.

Bachmann was sure quick to jump on the cut, cap and balance promise once she realized that not signing IT, while signing a promise to increase federal oversight of Americans’ bedrooms was a bad PR move.

As for Newt… we’re already in a deep hole. Balancing the budget is fine. But right now we have a huge deficit and interest payments on a gargantuan debt. And besides, HE balanced the budget?  All by himself?  Wow. What an accomplishment!

Gary Johnson’s reply?  Easy.  By not incurring more debt! I’d submit 2 Congress a balanced budget in 2013, & veto any appropriation that exceeds that budget!

It’s interesting that every single candidate replied he/she would not have gone into Libya.  Except for Newtie, who somehow thinks that we need to stick our dick into every hole on the planet, and he would have gone in (although, not with conventional forces.)

Go West!

The good Congressman from Florida has me quivering with pleasure like a bowl of lemon-flavored gelatin! 

No, not in a dirty way, you pigs! Get your collective minds out of the gutter!

No, seriously…

Congressman Allen B. West (R-FL) has got to be the most honorable, courageous and honest politician on the Hill!  And those of you who know me and my writing know what kind of person it takes for me to say that!

If you haven’t heard the background, read it here.

The short version is this:

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Democrat from Florida, decided (the coward that she is) to castigate Allen West for his stance on reducing Medicare costs.  She did so after West left the chambers.  She did so by using the usual hysterical Democrat blathering about balancing the budget “on the backs of seniors, children and the middle class.”

Now, I’ve never been a fan of Wasserman Schultz.  Her whining about extending hate crimes protections to military victims of violence, because according to her, military veterans aren’t “real” victims and are not targets of violence really pissed me off, and hell, I don’t even support hate crime laws!  I think a crime is a crime. It shouldn’t matter what anyone was thinking or feeling while they were hurting another human being…  but I digress…

This time Debbie needed a dressdown, and the man to provide it, didn’t mince words.  After she pusillanimously attacked Allen West, he struck back.  He told her exactly what he thought of her.  He didn’t pretend to be polite, and he gave it to her – with all barrels blazing!

And she deserved it.  Here’s the email. It wasn’t nice. It was to the point, and he told her exactly what he thought of her.  AND he cc’d House leadership.

Tito Muñoz goes to the McDonnell/Bolling establishment playbook against Jeff Frederick…

…and deserves to be taken to task for it.
With the header “In Case You Missed It From Today’s Bearing Drift Blog Post:”…the Muñoz campaign emailed me the text of this Hoeft hit-piece on Jeff from Bearing Drift from Friday, followed by “Authorized and paid for by Friends of Tito Muñoz”.
I’ll start by fisking the piece itself, and then we’ll deal with Mr. Muñoz and his campaign.

“Jeff Frederick attempts a recast”

We’ll see about that one.

“After being removed from office by the Republican Party of Virginia as Chairman, the once three-term state delegate, Jeff Frederick, is trying to cast himself as an outsider in his bid to become the Republican nominee for state senator.”

He doesn’t NEED to ‘try.’ You and the rest of the old-guard and Bob McDonnell’s minions were out to get him from the moment he routed Hager at the convention to win the chairmanship. Or, as a friend of mine who sits on SCC related it to me..” It’s the same people who have ALWAYS run RPV, and they know how close they were to losing it all, losing control with Jeff as chair.” So yeah, I think we can definitively say Jeff Frederick is an outsider.

“In a recent mailing to voters in the 36th District, Frederick says he wants to “End Politics As Usual in Virginia.”
“Our families deserve someone who will stand up to the career politicians. They deserve an honest, independent, common-sense voice.”
It’s interesting to note that Frederick, who did serve for six years in the House of Delegates, wants to serve another four in the state Senate, was chairman of the RPV, and is running for the Republican nomination, is not actually running as an independent candidate; he wants the endorsement from one of the two political parties that dominates our political system to back his bid.”

I think Hoeft is showing us a bit of how he thinks… “this guy is trying to be a Republican, therefore he’d damn well better march in lockstep, OR ELSE! No ‘independent voices’ allowed!” Way to be hyperliteralist, by the way. I’m just going to GUESS that perhaps Jeff means ‘independent’ in the intellectual sense, not in the sense of being independent of a political party. Quite a shock to you and your friends, no doubt, Mr. Hoeft.

“He writes:
“The career politicians in Richmond have made a mess of our economy and have put future generations at risk.”
Interesting choice of words. So, would that mean that Governor Bob McDonnell and his leadership team who have built Virginia into being #1 for business and balanced the budget without raising taxes have “made a mess of our economy”?”

Well, he just might. Not to break up your circle of RINO-McDonnell-worship, but he balanced the budget using federal money, and has given tax breaks – effective tax hikes for the rest of us – to businesses to move to Virginia. That sounds like standard-issue establishment behavior to me, it’s not conservative or honest, and it won’t fly with me. I’m sure Jeff meant primarily the current members of the Senate of Virginia, but hey, you brought up your hero McDonnell.

“This coming from the man who almost buried the Republican Party of Virginia? RPV is just now overcoming the tens of thousands of dollars in debt Frederick ran up on the party’s credit card. If you want a Microsoft Office product, just visit the Obenshain building on Grace St. in Richmond.
“Sure, they talk about creating jobs, but, in reality, they vote time and time again for job-killing tax hikes, new regulations and more wasteful government programs.”

Firstly, Jeff demolishes the “10 charges” in Mr. Hoeft’s linked piece here. Regarding that cute little Microsoft joke, a large amount of MS Office packages were an in-kind contribution to RPV months before Jeff Frederick became chairman. As regards Bolling, THIS is again indicative of the RINO mindset… Government or “public servants” can’t create jobs. The main thing government can do is get out of the way and let the private sector create them. Again… you brought these guys up, Mr. Hoeft, not me. Just sayin’.

 “Frederick has every right to want to earn votes from the people of the 36th District, but he could try to do so with a little more discretion and credibility.”

The only ones lacking in discretion and credibility here are you, Mr. Hoeft… and the Muñoz campaign.

Speaking of the Muñoz campaign, I’ll take this opportunity to state I am a Jeff Frederick supporter in the primary and have been since learning of his interest in running in the 36th. Having said that, I liked Tito Muñoz well enough, having met him a couple of times at events, and would have happily worked to help him defeat the odious Toddy Puller in November had he gotten the nomination. Given the eagerness of he and his supporters to push this hit piece by Hoeft, I’m having to rethink that. If he and they will stoop so low so quickly, perhaps he should question his fitness for public office. I can overlook his stumping for the mediocre (and that’s being very kind) John McCain, we were all pretty worried about an Obama presidency, and justifiably so as it turns out. But to instantly seize on this sort of establishment hack attacking Jeff… well, he just hurt himself and his conservative credentials. Badly.

Racism is legal in Michigan again

Welcome to Orwellian DoubleSpeak Michigan, where a law banning racial preferences in college admissions has been overturned because it supposedly “harms minorities.” 

That’s right, folks.  Equal opportunity for all harms minorities, and therefore in order to restore equality, the leftards in Michigan have decided that preferential treatment must be given to those of a specific race.

In other words, equality is racist, so we will institute racism to promote equality.

This is what the leftards want.

They want to treat minorities like idiot children, because they don’t believe blacks, Hispanics, etc. can enter college on their own merits.

George Washington, the chief attorney for the law’s opponents, applauded the decision today.

“It’s a great victory. It means affirmative action is legal again in college admissions. It means that thousands of talented black, Latino and Native Americans can go to our public universities,” Washington said.

Yeah, this tard is actually named George Washington. I’m sure our Founder is spinning in his grave so hard, he’s creating his own gravitational pull.

He believes that without racist policies that give preferential treatment to minorities, they will not enter public universities.


Gregory Creswell of Detroit gathered signatures for Proposal 2, the ballot initiative banning race and gender in college admissions. He said today he was dismayed by the decision.

“In a free society, politicians should not determine who wins and loses in life. It should be that person based on their merits. I don’t want the government being for me because of my skin color or against me,” Creswell said.

If I were black or Hispanic or any other color, I would be damn insulted by this!  But of course, the “GIMME” mentality dictates that if you can get an advantage through using government force against others, you should, because you’re entitled to a hand up by virtue of being somehow disadvantaged.

This kind of stuff would give Orwell a headache.

WASHINGTON — Older adults of the same age and income with similar medical histories would pay sharply different amounts for private health insurance due to what appears to be an unintended consequence of the new health care law.

Aware of the problem, the administration says it is exploring options to address a potential disparity that could mean added controversy for President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul. The law expands coverage to more than 30 million uninsured people and would require most Americans to carry insurance.

As the health care law is now written, those who take early retirement would get a significant break on health insurance premiums. That’s because part or all of their Social Security benefits would not count as income in figuring out whether they can get federal subsidies to help pay for coverage until they become eligible for Medicare at 65.
